The Juice: Red Sox lose to O’s again; Papelbon blows save in eighth

1. Red menace: The Boston Red Sox jersey fell to 5-15 in September after the Orioles beat them 7-5 on Tuesday night, with closer Jonathan Papelbon (notes) blowing a save in the eighth inning. Fenway folks probably can’t wait for Robert Andino (notes) to leave; he went 3 for 5 with a three-run double to put the O’s ahead. Did we mention that the Orioles have 90 losses?

Watch Andino get to Papelbon

“It’s on me, no one else,” Papelbon told the assembled media conduits.

You see what happens when managers bring in closers before the ninth? Happy now, one-inning-save haters?!

Pap is mistaken about something, though. Another key to the game was Baltimore’s bullpen pitching six shutout innings, most notably three by Jo-Jo Reyes (notes) . Also: Pedro Strop (notes) might lead the 2012 O’s in holds. He looks great. Conversely, Boston starter Erik Bedard (notes) had a rough night .

2. Super: In the New York Yankees jersey ‘ 5-0 victory, Ivan Nova (notes) kept the Rays in check with seven scoreless innings. He has a 3.09 ERA in 15 starts since June 9 and is apparently the No. 2 starter heading to the playoffs. Also breaking: Curtis Granderson (notes) (3 for 5, four RBIs) is good.

Playoffs reset: The Yanks can clinch the AL East with one more win (or Boston loss), and the Red Sox stayed a game ahead of Tampa Bay in the loss column for the wild card. The Angels, who beat Toronto, gained a game on Boston and are three out.

3. Kicking birds: The unlikely combination of Ryan Theriot (notes) and rookie Adron Chambers (notes) led a comeback for the St. Louis Cardinals , who bolted to an 11-6 win against the Mets thanks to a six-run seventh inning. Theriot hit a two-run double and Chambers followed with a three-run triple to help Team Fredbird keep pace in the wild card race. They’ve won 11 of 13

4. Brave rebound: A night after an unbearable loss, the Atlanta Braves beat the Marlins 4-0 behind rookieRandall Delgado (notes) . Their lead in the wild card race used to be 10 1/2 games, but they’re happy to still be ahead by 2 1/2 with seven games left for themselves and eight for St. Louis.

5. Not Amish, just looks it: Can you feel the momentum for Clayton Kershaw (notes) and the Cy Young Award? He won his 20th game , beating the Giants 2-1. Kenley Jansen (notes) cut off a rally in the eighth by striking out pinch-hitter Pablo Sandoval (notes) and Carlos Beltran (notes) .

6. It was nice: The Giants didn’t fall any further behind the Arizona Diamondbacks , who lost 5-3 to Charlie Morton (notes) and the Pirates. But they are about out of time. Arizona’s magic number is three.

7. Clench, not clinch: The champagne cocktail party the Philadelphia Phillies are planning has been delayed. The dastardly Washington Nationals beat them 4-3 in 10 innings and 3-0 to sweep a doubleheader at Citizens Bank Park.

8. The West was still: The AL West remains unchanged after the Texas Rangers jersey beat the A’s 7-2 with the help of an Adrian Beltre (notes) three-run home run. The Los Angeles Angels beat the Blue Jays 10-6 with Mark Trumbo (notes) getting home run No. 29 . Jays lefty Brett Cecil (notes) pitched poorly in his first post-blender start.

Tainted by Scandal, Juventus Tries to Regain Its Luster

Inasmuch as Juventus is currently visiting North America, officials of that fabled football team understand being compared to another legendary sports franchise — the New York Yankees Jersey of baseball.
After all, there are the striped uniforms, the modern luxury-box stadiums, the international branding, with Juve jerseys and Yankees caps seen all over the world.
Then there are — according to official league records, anyway — the 27 championships won by each dynasty.
Actually, make that 29, says Andrea Agnelli, the chairman of the Juventus board and a member of the Fiat family that has owned Juventus since 1923.
The two titles won in 2004-05 and 2005-06 were taken away after the Juventus general manager was detected openly bargaining for referees he wanted for his matches — a scandal known as Calciopoli (Footballgate).
But other clubs also lobbied, said Agnelli, 35, who took over active control of his family team in 2010 during a continuing championship drought.
Agnelli has promised to pursue the two titles, preferably through the league structure, but, if necessary, through the courts.
The revoked championships are still an issue as Juventus tours the New World in the growing summer festival of crack European squads training and making money in the World Football Challenge. On Tuesday night, Juve beat Club America of Mexico 1-0, courtesy of Cristian Pasquato’s goal in the 41st minute, entertaining the crowd of 20,859 at Citi Field in New York.
On Thursday the bianconeri will play Chivas Guadalajara of Mexico in Raleigh, North Carolina, and then head home.
On Sept. 10 the club will open its new 41,000-seat stadium, the first major football stadium in Italy built with private funds, Agnelli said.
Juventus, known as La Vecchia Signora, or the Old Lady, is a giant in its own field. Its name comes from the Latin word for youth, which is highly appropriate since the club recruits prospects from all over Italy.
“When Juve calls, you go,” said Paolo De Ceglie, 24, who joined the organization as a 10-year-old.
“When you think about the four World Cups that Italy has won,” Agnelli said, referring to 1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006, “we actually employed 27 players out of 44 in the starting lineup.”

Juve is in the embarrassing position of being shut out of the two major European tournaments this season because it finished a dismal seventh last year.
At the moment, the club is identified with the scandal involving the general manager that caught the world’s attention as Italy was winning its fourth World Cup in Germany in July 2006. Those nasty implications have been followed by a time of other scandals, often in lesser leagues, around the world. MLB Jerseys. Wiretaps caught Luciano Moggi, the general manager, pressuring league officials to supply referees he liked.
The wiretaps only reinforced the suspicions in Italian minds that Juventus often seemed to catch the lucky bounce, to say nothing of the timely whistle.
The 2004-05 championship Juve won is now listed as empty because the league could not identify a worthy contending team. Juve’s 2005-06 title was turned over to Inter Milan.
The scandal of Calciopoli has held Juventus back, but the entire Serie A has fallen behind other leagues, said Andrei Markovits, a co-author of “Offside: Football and American Exceptionalism.”
Agnelli does not deny that Italian football has fallen behind.
“To be candid about Serie A, we are certainly not where we want to be today,” he said. “It certainly has to do with the facility. All the stadiums are obsolete. We have a lot of violence, we still have police around the stadium, so it is not very friendly.”
To combat this, the Agnelli family put together financial backing for a stadium that blatantly appeals to well-heeled patrons of luxury boxes.
He has also overhauled the front office and brought in a new coach, Antonio Conte, a Juve mainstay in its 1996 Champions League victory. Agnelli said he expected more movement in the player market in August.
While they do not mind an American linking them with the Yankees and their 27 World Series titles, Agnelli and everybody else in the white-and-black uniforms have a common answer about their number of championships: Ummm, make that 29.

How The West Will Be Won: Oakland Athletics

Oakland went into the offseason coming in a close second behind the Texas Rangers Jersey in the AL West. Hungry for more, they struck a deal almost immediately with the Kansas City Royals for outfielder David DeJesus. David DeJesus put up great numbers last year, a slash line of .318/.384/.443, which would be an immediate upgrade to the A’s, who posted a team slash line .256/.324/.378. DeJesus should rebound from his season ending injury last year, which occurred when he leaped against the right field wall to make a catch and tore a tendon in his right thumb. Once he rebounds, his bat is going to inject some life into the A’s lineup.
Along with DeJesus came Hideki Matsui Jersey and Josh Willingham, who are looking to replace the power lost in the departure of Jack Cust. These two combined for 44 HR’s, 140 RBI’s, and 90 XBH’s, which will look a lot better coming out of the 4-5 hole for Oakland then what they’ve had in a while. Angel fan’s are very familiar with Matsui, not only being a key player with rival New York Yankees Jersey for many years, but also as an Angel after coming to LA after the 2009 season. Although Matsui still carries the ability to put up strong numbers, his decline (while graceful) is becoming apparent. The Coliseum is notorious for heavily favoring pitchers, so those power numbers will most likely take a small dip next season. Still, a 3-4-5 of DeJesus-Willingham/Matsui-Matsui/Willingham will improve the A’s offensive greatly, but will they do enough to send the A’s to the 2011 playoffs? It all really depends on the performance of the regulars from last year.

Yankees starter Hughes 3 challenge war

New York Yankees Jersey at Minnesota Twins only won 2 away games, with 2 wins, 0 lost absolute leading edge back to home, 3 wars, if won, will be able to qualify for the American League Championship. Yankees expected in the first 3 to send Phil Hughes as the battle starts, the young, he is ready to meet this challenge. He needs to ease the tension in it? Head coach Joe Girardi said: “I do not have to do throughout the year.” Pitching coach Dave Eiland believes that the regular season is the best preparation, he said: “In the New York pitching is the in-service training, as long as there are ways to do it, no better way to learn. ”Hughes the Yankees old-timers also pretty comfortable victory in the battle to win 2 Andy Pettitte, said: “He just needs to control his emotions, which he did well when he played very few show any emotion. He just has to play , to do what he has done enough. “Although people are quite confident of Hughes, but there are some less favorable for the Hughes data. His performance has been poor on left handed hitters, but Joe Mauer, Jason Kubel, Jim Thome jersey hit the left would vote with which generation units will not be easy.In addition, Hughes poor results this year, Xia Banji, Philadelphia Eagles 10# DeSean Jackson jerseys including September 4 starts, pitched 25 Council, lost a total of up to 14 points. His 4.66 earned run average at home, or even higher than the road for more than 1 minute. Is he really ready to leave the war 3 announced.

Washington Nationals vs Florida Marlins: Sunday Spring Training GameThread.

In case you missed it last night, there was a report out of Chicago from ESPNChicago’s Bruce Levine that had “three scouts” from the Washington Nationals Jersey in attendance for a Spring game between the Chicago Cubs Jersey and Cincinatti Reds to have a look at Cubs’ right-hander Carlos Silva. In an article entitled, “Sources: Scouts watching Carlos Silva”, Mr. Levine wrote yesterday that, “in addition to the Nationals, the New York Yankees Jersey are following all of Silva’s outings.” The 31-year-old Venezuelan-born former Phillies, Twins and Mariners’ starter, who last year pitched in Chicago after being acquired in a deal for outfielder Milton Bradley, was (10-6) with a 4.22 ERA, 103 ERA+, 3.75 FIP, 6.37 K’s and 1.91 BB/9 in 2010. A crowded Cubs’ rotation is cited as the reason the right-handed starter might be available. Is there room in the Nats’ rotation?
